550. The Song of
Songs - Micrographic
Dimensions: 10 ¼" x 37"., 25 x 94 cm
The Song of Songs is a splendid and lyrical love poem. The
original of this scroll was written by a scribe on high quality
parchment. The dimensions of the print are identical to the
original scroll.
The illumination is done in the style of the Lisbon manuscript
workshop, which flourished during the fifteenth century, and
culminated in a workshop which produced the famous Lisbon
Bible and many other illuminated manuscripts currently in
the collections of major museums in London, Paris, and New
York. In keeping with this tradition, micrography, or miniature
decorative writing, is also used. The entire text of the Song
of Songs is written in micrographic script in brown ink in
the surrounding margins and within the illuminations, which
are all based on the Star of David. In addition, selected
verses, written in larger, colored letters, appear as a framework
to the columns of text. The text is surrounded by a pattern
of intertwined floral illumination.
Edition limited to 250 copies. Gicl?e printing with gold applied
by hand.
The scroll is delivered unframed, in a red gift box with the

551. The Physician's Prayer |
|
|
By Maimonides.
Dimensions: 10 ¼" x 37". 25 x 94 cm
In this piece, I emulate the work of the 15th century Lisbon
Judaic Workshop, which created many magnificent manuscripts,
among them is the Lisbon Bible. Characteristic of the Lisbon
style is the use of micrography, tiny lettering, that forms
lines and shapes, all written, as well as the use of different
sizes of lettering in the same page. Also the delicate floral
motives, and the thin line frames originate from the same
style

559. Shir Hashirim
- Jerusalem view
The Song of Songs is a splendid and lyrical love poem. According
to Jewish tradition, it represents an allegorical paean to
the love between the people of Israel and their Creator. The
original scroll was written by the scribe Avital Goldner on
high quality parchment. The dimensions of the print are identical
to the original scroll.
The illumination of the scroll suggests a landscape with the
walled city of Jerusalem, depicted as viewed by the settlers
around it, in old days, maybe at the time of King Solomon.
The settlers grow trees, bearing the fruits of Shir Hashirim,
such as pomegranates, figs, olives, palm trees, vines and
apples; women and children are harvesting the fruit; a shepherd
watches his sheep; a man and his wife stand under the crawling
vine in their home patio, in an atmosphere of peace and serenity.
Selected verses, written in colored letters, border the columns
of text and surround the landscape.
Edition limited to 250 copies.
Giclee printing with gold applied by hand.
Scroll comes rolled in a gift box.

568. Physician's Prayer - Creation
Giclee print. 34.4 x 16.9" / 59 x 43 cm
Limited edition of 250, signed and numbered.
Gold added by hand, 80 Swarowski crystals
Text from Maimonides, Hebrew, or Hebrew and English.
In this prayer the physician undertakes the responsibility of caring for God's creations, keeping vigil over their life and wellbeing.
The six days of Creation and the holy Shabbat are represented in this colorful print, in concentric circular borders, a day in each. The first day, in which light was created, is all gold. The second day - the separation of water and heavens. The third day - the creation of land and vegetation. Sun and moon, day and night, on the fourth day. Small creatures living on land, in air and in water were formed on the fifth day. These are represented by the birds, while elephants, largest of all mammals, symbolize the Lord's work on the sixth day, crowned by the creation of man and woman. Shabbat, the blessed day of rest, is adorned with flowers.
In the four corners are the colors of the four seasons, each crawling into the next as a secondary border because of the continuity of time. The cycle of the year does not have sharp breaks; it flows...and the physician's toil never ends.
